Nurse Log

Front window display

Here’s my idea for the front window display. Nurse Log would be a diptych, 9’ in diameter at the base. The upper piece, a sun ray, would be made out of gauze and suspended by a small cable. Since it wouldn’t interfere with viewers walking around the piece, it would be larger than the bottom piece. I think my painting, Nurse Log Meeting the Sun II (see below), would be nice on the north wall to help tell the story. Materials would include steel pipe, canvas, plaster, acrylic, fabric stiffener, wire and gauze for see-through components.

It would be tight but since I am so sure about the composition, I could create this piece for an end of June install if I know by May3rd. I’m open regarding budget.

Meeting Place

South Exhibition Space

Meeting Place would be a continuation of my idea of creating diptychs that reflect celestial and terrestrial imagery with an emphasis on how the two parts meet in the present moment. I’m excited about the idea of creating sculptures visitors could meander around and I think it would nicely complement the Virginia Park stroll nearby. Two of the large scale diptychs would be attached to the wall. I would use mirrors on the wall to create a portal effect in the wall and allow people to see themselves as they traverse through. Diptych labeled #3 in my drawing includes a set of stairs or ramp people walk up to reach the upper piece and be cocooned in a shape inspired by clam, petal and wing imagery (see detail drawing below). Using a mirror on the wall here would offer the experience of being surrounded fully by the sculpture. Diptych labeled #1 would also have a large mirror on the wall and the bottom piece would be a shape that could be walked under. I would paint on the wall around the large mirrors using imagery from the sculptures in order to help the mirror blend in and allow it to be a surprise encounter when passing by. Diptych #2 would be free standing, similar to my large piece, Meteor Flower (see below). Diptych #4 would incorporate the preexisting column in the room. I would include a floor painting and a way to walk through the root system/ kelp forest. The upper pieces incorporate imagery from nebulae and stellar nurseries.

Timeline: mid 2026 or beyond

Bumbershoot

If the reflecting ponds are still without water, I love the idea of painting floor paintings on canvas that would go where I marked in these photos. I could supply a sketch of the design, but the idea is to paint the reflection of the white architecture as trees and root systems using contrasting dark imagery of the cosmos in place of water. Budget 3-8k depending on scale

Gallery wall

Here are two pieces on paper (14” x 14” ) that I have in my studio and could frame. $700ea. I typically always have something in my studio. *I would want to confirm with McLean at AmCE before participating in the salon wall.
